Shelby and Wes’ Marathon Texas Wedding

When Shelby and Wes asked us to shoot their wedding in Marathon, Texas, I was super excited. Because I love West Texas.

Okay, Derrick loves West Texas. And I love Derrick. ‘Cause there’s the stuff you love, and there’s the stuff he loves. And then there’s the stuff you really kinda do love because he loves it. Marriage is like that. But I digress.

Marathon, Texas Sign

Marathon, at an elevation of 4040 feet and located in the Chihuahuan Desert, has a humidity level of like 0% I’m guessing. And though there is a certain kind of beauty to dirt and rocks, and rocks and dirt (and maybe some cactus), Gage Gardens is such a welcoming oasis out there.

Shelby & Wes’ perfect palette appropriately reflected the colors of the desert.  Shelby’s dress was traditional white. The gents donned off-white shirts and khakis, and the bridesmaids were so lovely in strapless tea-length light gold frocks with brown sashes.  Florals (none of which the bride’s bouquet contained) were yellow roses and carnations. What’s left? Oh, yes. Green. Green succulents. (Did I mention I love succulents?)

Shelby’s bouquet was comprised entirely of greenery, much of it succulents. Their other (and most adorable) use? The guest favors–tiny potted succulents. They looked so precious in their terracotta pots all sprayed in metallic gold. I seriously wanted one. Okay, I wanted all of them.

Speaking of gifts, how cool is this?  Wes made knives from railroad spikes for each of his groomsmen. The guys were, of course, pretty stoked.

Other really awesome not-to-be-overlooked elements include:

  • Boots. Worn by everyone, of course. We’re in West Texas!
  • Poloroid sign-in book (with location-appropriate props),
  • The Best Man’s toast: A song to his baby brother & new sister-in-law (watch it here),
  • And the ever-popular sparkler send-off.

So here is Shelby & Wes’ Marathon, Texas Wedding Highlight. If you enjoy watching it half as much as we enjoyed making it, then we did pretty good.

Shelby and Wes wanted their closest friends and family to enjoy West Texas and the Big Bend. These two had a beautiful wedding day.

San Angelo Wedding Success

On July 23, 2011 Kendra and I shot this amazing wedding at the Cactus Hotel in San Angelo.

Jamie and David were such a perfect couple to work with.  Their wedding day flew by and we were thankful we were there to capture it.

To find out more on the historic Cactus Hotel check out the Cactus Website.  Here is an excerpt from their page:

The Hotel Cactus (originally the Hilton Hotel) of 1928 is one of the best preserved of the original Hilton hotels. Since then its fourteen-story buff-brick tower, capped with a red mission-tile roof, has served as a familiar regional landmark. For almost six decades its interior spaces have been hubs of activity for generations of west Texans. The tastefully blended colors and details of the building reflect Architect Anton Korn’s sensitivity to both formal classical references and Southwestern regional influences.

Now if I could only get this highlight song out of my head,

Derrick Perrin
