New Instant Edit Wedding Video

On September 20, 2008 we had the opportunity to produce the wedding video for Erika Teixeira & Jimmy Boller. This was one of our weddings that was rescheduled due to Hurricane Ike. Erika and Jimmy were such a great couple to work with. Erika hired us months ago and told us about everything she had planed for her wedding day. We were blown away by everything she wanted to do. Right after that she let us know she hired Amy Canterbury with Outside The Box Weddings & Parties We knew she was in good hands once she told us about Outside The Box.

From the Friday night rehearsal dinner at the Corpus Christi Town Club to the Cathedral wedding ceremony to the reception at the art museum everything went just as planned. We produced a “same day edit” or “instant edit” for their wedding. Essentially a same day edit is a highlight video of the couples wedding. So three hours after they say “I do” they are watching a highlight video set to a music selection they choose. Here is the video clip from last nights wedding.

Photographer vs Videographer

Okay so here is the million dollar question?  Photographer vs Videographer, who wins?  What, some of you are not exactly sure what a videographer is?

Someone who does videography can be called a videographer.  This is just like someone who does photography is called a photographer.  What, some of you are not exactly sure what videography is?  Here is Wiki’s quick and dirty version of videography.

Videography – The word combines “video” from Latin, meaning “I see” or “I apprehend”, with the Greek terminal ending “graphy”, meaning “to write”. Its contemporary sense is rooted in an article titled “Videography: What Does It All Mean?” (American Cinematographer, October 1972).

So which one is right for your event?  Most of the time the answer is both.  A photographer does a great job of setting up the really important shots of you and grandma.  They also capture a lot of the candid shots during your event.  Now a videographer does shoot a lot of the same stuff the photographer shoots but they are able to do it with motion and sound.  If you are on a tight budget you might want to decide on doing one or the other.  In these days of You Tube and iPods some couples are looking towards video to document their day.

Just think in ten years you could be celebrating your wedding anniversary by looking at your old photo album.  When you come across that picture where you are both laughing hysterically, will you remember you were laughing at your uncle dancing the funky chicken?  I know as strange as that might sound video will capture those moments when photography will not.  Also, important events like blessings and toast are not captured on photos like they are in full motion with audio.

Don’t get me wrong I am not knocking what photographers do or the services they provide.  I just am trying to show you how the two are different.  Anyways, just some food for thought.

Take care

New description for website

We are working on a new description about Kendra and Me.  We need to include our new son Grason when we do it.  If you are one of the people who are close to us or know us well feel free to reply to this post.  Here is what we have so far:

I am Derrick Perrin and I am co-owner of Big Box Pro with my lovely wife Kendra. My background takes me through the radio and television programs at Del Mar College, and Texas A&M Kingsville. While at Kingsville, I was able to serve as the University’s television station news director. I did all this while working as a PC Tech at Best Buy in Corpus Christi. I also have some background in the law firm field. For two years I worked at the Wyatt Law Firm processing documents, taking pictures, and producing legal mediation brochures.
As for Kendra, we married on March 10, 2007. She has a background in education with a diploma from Texas A&M Corpus Christi. After teaching for five years, she decided to come to work at the studio full time. She soon became the head special event video editor at Big Box Pro.
Our hobbies include: Geocaching, wake boarding, hiking, and great food.
If you have time stop by our blog and take a look around.

Let us know if there is anything we should cut or add to the description. This is the only spot on the site other than our blog where we get to be us and it is not all about wedding video production.

New look for our wedding video website

This past weekend we went out of town to avoid Hurricane Ike.  As it turned out Ike didn’t even come close to hitting Corpus Christi.

The time off gave me the opportunity to do some work on the web site.  We have a new ad being placed in the One Bride Guide here in Corpus Christi and we have a new look.  We changed up a few things with our marketing and thought we needed for our site to look like our press material.  Take a look at the new site and let us know what you think.

Our site for wedding video in Corpus Christi can be found at Big Box Pro Wedding Video.  We hope the site has plenty of information to help those in need of a professional videographer make a great decision.  So if have any questions that are not answered on the new website feel free to drop us an email or call.

Off Weekend

We were setting up to video two big weddings this weekend when we received word they were canceled due to hurricane Ike.  Lucky for us Ike is heading for Houston.  Our Saturday wedding was set for the Corpus Christi Cathedral and the Sunday wedding was to be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help.  Both brides decided to halt there weddings so we took the opportunity to take a road trip.

Wednesday we boarded up the home and studio and headed for the hills.  Literally we came to visit my in-laws “The Hills.”  So along with my wonderful wife, 6 week old Grason & three dogs we managed to make it to San Angelo on Thursday afternoon.  We pulled all the equipment from the studio and I have temporally setup shop here at the Hill’s.

Take care and stay safe

Labor Day

On Labor Day we went over to my great aunts house in Lamar Texas.  We were able to take Grason and show him off.  He was well behaved and we think everyone enjoyed him very much.  We did have to pry him out of his Great Grandfathers hands so we could take him home.
