Local photographer wins national award

Corpus Christi portrait photographer Raymond Gray of Gray Photography has earned a Platinum Level “Photographer of the Year” Award from the Professional Photographers of America. Gray will be honored at PPA’s annual convention, Imaging USA, in Nashville, Tenn., in January. Gray received this honor by winning a national merit award for all four of his entries.

Gray’s award-winning photographs came from a variety of assignments this past year: “A Slower Pace” was taken in Venus Italy; “My Lucerne, My Town” was captured while documenting the heart of Europe; “Mi Lugar” and “Faith and Perseverance” were recorded while in San Miguel, Mexico.

His studio does amazing work, and we love to work events with them.

While shooting wedding video, we get the opportunity to work with a lot of photographers in the Corpus Christi area.  Unfortunately, these photographers try to knock the work of Gray Photography.  Well to all the naysayers out there here is a question for you;  “Did you get a national award for meriting on four prints at nationals this year?”  I didn’t think so.  We would like to congratulate Raymond Gray for his award this year.  Keep up the good work  in 2010.

Just my two cents,

Big Box Pro, Corpus Christi Wedding Videographer

We hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas break. Spring wedding planning is now in full effect. When planning that perfect wedding remember to document it well.

There are a few ways to document your wedding day. For years hiring a professional photographer was the standard, but these days there is a shift to video, or using a videographer. Sometimes people come up to us at the wedding fair and ask, “What is a videographer?” A videographer is one who captures a story on video. A videographer is very similar to a photographer, but in place of still photos, we use motion video and sound to develop the story. When you add the element of sound your wedding comes to life.

Both mediums have a very unique benefits. We encourage you to hire both. Below is a sample of a wedding highlight clip by Big Box Pro Wedding Video:
[vimeo 7980367]
This video was shot this past November at Nolte Farms, in Seguin, Texas. While watching the exchange of vows, ask yourself how a photo could capture that emotion.

In planning for a wedding video, many people think they can do it themselves or hire an amateur. This is where some go wrong. When hiring a professional wedding vendor you get the expertise that comes along with someone who has been there and done it before. Professional wedding vendors will have demo products so you can see what you are purchasing. Another major difference is the contract. If you hire a professional you will be getting a contract for the services and or products you are buying.

Enjoy, and good luck to all you newlyweds couples out there,
Derrick Perrin

New Wave Photos

Here are a few photos from the session we had with New Wave Photography here in Corpus Christi.  We shoot a lot of wedding video and often we find ourselves out with Rob and Amanda.  They do a great job shooting photos and we decided to trade photos for video work.  They had their daughter, Parker Lilly, a few weeks after we had Grason.  Not only do we enjoy their company, we also enjoy Rob and Amanda’s work.  Below are a few baby portraits that New Wave Photo www.newwavephoto.com did for us.

Thanks again to Rob and Amanda at New Wave

Photographer vs Videographer

Okay so here is the million dollar question?  Photographer vs Videographer, who wins?  What, some of you are not exactly sure what a videographer is?

Someone who does videography can be called a videographer.  This is just like someone who does photography is called a photographer.  What, some of you are not exactly sure what videography is?  Here is Wiki’s quick and dirty version of videography.

Videography – The word combines “video” from Latin, meaning “I see” or “I apprehend”, with the Greek terminal ending “graphy”, meaning “to write”. Its contemporary sense is rooted in an article titled “Videography: What Does It All Mean?” (American Cinematographer, October 1972).

So which one is right for your event?  Most of the time the answer is both.  A photographer does a great job of setting up the really important shots of you and grandma.  They also capture a lot of the candid shots during your event.  Now a videographer does shoot a lot of the same stuff the photographer shoots but they are able to do it with motion and sound.  If you are on a tight budget you might want to decide on doing one or the other.  In these days of You Tube and iPods some couples are looking towards video to document their day.

Just think in ten years you could be celebrating your wedding anniversary by looking at your old photo album.  When you come across that picture where you are both laughing hysterically, will you remember you were laughing at your uncle dancing the funky chicken?  I know as strange as that might sound video will capture those moments when photography will not.  Also, important events like blessings and toast are not captured on photos like they are in full motion with audio.

Don’t get me wrong I am not knocking what photographers do or the services they provide.  I just am trying to show you how the two are different.  Anyways, just some food for thought.

Take care

A Great Grand Opening

Friday was the grand opening for the new Big Box Pro Video Production studios. Along with Fonzie Munoz Photography we invited the public out to see the new site at 4209 S. Alameda. We had over 90 people sign in the guest book and many more coming and going during the night. As for a grand opening went we thought it was a great success. Those who RSVP’d were eligible to win door prizes. A few of the business from our new neighborhood were gracious enough to donate gifts for door prizes. So a big thanks goes to our new neighbors. In the short time we have been at our new location we have been very thankful to be away from the downtown Corpus Christi area. We fee a lot safer here.

We decides a while back that we would put on the grand opening on our own without the help of any chamber of commerce. If you are planning to do it yourself we definably recommend it. Sure they will get a lot of people out to your event, but are they your target market? When it comes down to it most chamber of commerce sponsored grand openings involve the same lushes coming out for a social event and free beer. I recommend that you build a client and vendor list and work from there. You can use a site like eVite and let them cover the electronic invitations. Once your event is over you have the opportunity to post pictures online for everyone to see. You can see ours here:

We truly appreciate all of our friends and family the helped to make this a success.

Oh yea, thanks a million to Moms, we could not do this without you.

Thanks
